Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successful personality and duplicate it.
– Bruce Lee
Day Twenty Eight: Open
Having low self-esteem can stop you being open and honest with yourself and others. Rather than saying something that may not be the most popular or agreeable opinion, you may instead nod along with your friends and agree with the general consensus. This is often due to the fear of being disliked, judged or maybe laughed at.
It’s such a shame when we do this because we’re depriving the world of an individual. Do we really want a world full of duplicate personalities? If you like a film, outfit, person, hobby that nobody else does, who cares? Own that opinion! If we start admitting how we really feel and think, we’ll often end up with the right people anyway – it could open up a conversation with someone who finds your perspective interesting, strike a chord with someone who feels the same way or you’ll have a good debate with someone who has a different perspective.
Today’s task is to own your opinions and beliefs – why not write a post or tweet on social media about something you are really into but you would normally hold this back in conversation? Be open, face your fears and this will build your self confidence.
Next, we celebrate.
