One of the best ways to boost self-esteem is to set yourself a goal and work towards achieving it. Depending on the goal, you might reach it in 1 day, 1 month or even 5 years, this doesn’t matter. You will prove to yourself that you can achieve something on your own and that feeling will boost your self-value immensely.
Now I am focusing specifically today on physical goals. The reason for this is simple – getting yourself physically active will make you feel stronger, healthier and will release wonderful endorphins which give you a natural boost. Even if it takes 5 years to reach your physical goal, you will naturally lift your self-esteem along the way. Just listen to Legally Blonde’s Elle Woods if you doubt this!
My current physical goal is to be able to conquer the monkey bars! I enjoy those muddy obstacle races (I actually have one tomorrow eek!) and one part I cannot do is swing across those damn monkey bars. I expect it will take a while before I get there, but the journey in itself is increasing my self-esteem as I feel myself getting stronger…
If you’re new to exercise, I would recommend your goal to be running a 5km race in a few months time. If you think this is not a challenge, up it to 10km. Or for a real challenge, look into a new race like the Tough Mudder or a triathlon. One of my friends’ current physical goal is to complete 10 full press-ups (no knees on the floor!).
Let me know if you decide to set yourself a physical goal, as I would love to hear the challenges people set themselves 🙂
how did the monkey bars go? My current goal is to get better at pilates as it is really much harder than it looks!

climbing is super good for upper body strength. As a vertically challenged person I find climbing slightly frustrating as I feel somewhat disadvantaged but it’s so much fun.
