Goooooooooals!

Boost of the Day #77

I’ve talked about the importance of setting goals when I first started writing this blog and discussed what happens if you don’t achieve a goal. Now it’s time to take this to a practical level. I want you to write down three goals to work towards until the end of October. Actually write them down, as this makes them more concrete and you can relook at them daily to remind you what you are aiming for.

Remember your goals need to be SMART! Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Results-focused and Time-based. As this is for the end of October, it’s no good choosing a goal like ‘get married’, ‘buy a home’, ‘change my body shape’ etc. I want you to choose short-term goals.

Here is a good example of three goals (these may be my own!):

  • Learn to climb and pass the belaying test
  • Get an interview for a university-based job
  • Take the time to send something nice in the post to a friend (or friends)

These are very specific to my own life at the moment, as I am learning to climb and looking for a new challenge in my career. I wanted the last one to be less focused on me and allow me to work on thinking of others more.

I really believe that setting (SMART) goals is key to increasing self-confidence and achieving happiness, as it makes you focus on what you really want in life. Give it a go and let me know how you get on! Feel free to write the three goals in a comment below…
